Maruti Swift Sport Could Launch in India: Turbocharged Hatch with Sporty Styling & Global DNA

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly evaluating the Swift Sport, its internationally acclaimed hot hatchback, for an Indian launch. While the regular Swift has long been a favourite in the hatchback market, the Swift Sport brings global performance DNA, featuring a turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, and aggressive styling. If greenlit, the Swift Sport will target driving enthusiasts looking for a fun-to-drive hatch under ₹15 lakh, filling a much-needed performance void in Maruti’s Indian portfolio.

Bold, Sporty Styling with Racing Character

The Swift Sport stands apart from the standard Swift with aerodynamic bumpers, blacked-out grille, larger alloy wheels, side skirts, dual exhaust tips, and a rear diffuser-style element. The car sits lower, with a wider stance and a more planted look. Inside, the cabin gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, contrast stitching, red accents, and sport bucket seats, giving the driver a race-car-like feel. A digital MID, touchscreen infotainment, and safety features like 6 airbags and ESP are expected to be carried forward.

1.4L Turbo BoosterJet Engine with Global Pedigree

Internationally, the Swift Sport is powered by a 1.4L BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine that produces 129 PS of power and 235 Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, tuned for spirited driving and better acceleration. Maruti may consider detuning the engine slightly for India to meet emission norms and offer higher fuel efficiency while retaining the car’s sporty characteristics.

Expected Price and India Launch Possibility

If launched in India, the Maruti Swift Sport would likely be priced around ₹11.5–₹13.5 lakh (ex-showroom), competing with performance-oriented cars like the Hyundai i20 N Line, Volkswagen Polo GT (if relaunched), and Altroz Racer. The launch could take place sometime in late 2025 or early 2026, depending on market demand and localization feasibility.
