Tata Nano EV Motors is reportedly working on reviving the iconic Tata Nano, this time as an electric city car for India’s growing EV market. Once celebrated as India’s most affordable petrol car, the Nano EV could make a comeback in 2025 as the country’s most affordable electric vehicle (EV), targeting budget-conscious urban buyers. With Tata’s rapidly growing EV ecosystem including the Tiago EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV the electric Nano could be a strategic move to capture entry-level EV demand in both private and fleet segments.
Compact, Modern Design for Urban India
The Tata Nano EV is expected to retain the original compact footprint ideal for city use, but with major exterior and interior redesigns. Spy shots and early concepts suggest new LED DRLs, redesigned bumpers, closed-off EV grille, and larger alloy wheels for a more modern, quirky appearance. Inside, the car may feature a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, smart keyless entry, and voice-command features in top trims all while staying true to its budget-friendly roots.
Range & Battery: Targeting Everyday Commuters
The Tata Nano EV could use a 19–21 kWh LFP battery pack, similar to the Tiago EV’s base variant, offering a real-world range of 200–250 km per charge—perfect for city commuters and short-distance travelers. It is expected to support both standard AC and optional fast charging, enabling 10–80% top-ups in around 60 minutes with fast chargers. The car will likely be built on a modified version of the Ziptron EV platform or a cost-optimized version tailored for compact EVs.
Affordable Electric Mobility for the Masses
Tata could launch the Nano EV in multiple trims, with basic variants targeted at fleet/taxi markets (with minimal features) and premium variants offering connected tech, dual-tone interiors, and driver-assist features. Expected safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse camera, and parking sensors. With lightweight construction and low running costs, the Nano EV would be ideal for students, city drivers, and first-time EV buyers.
Tata Nano EV Expected Price and India Launch
The Tata Nano EV is expected to launch in mid-to-late 2025, with a starting price between ₹4.5 lakh and ₹6 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable EV in India upon launch. Once introduced, it would directly rival the MG Comet EV, PMV EaS-E, and entry-level versions of the Tiago EV. With Tata’s strong EV network and localization advantage, the Nano EV could truly bring electric mobility to the masses.
